Leadership Transition at Hennepin Healthcare

Hennepin Healthcare CEO Jennifer DeCubellis has announced her resignation, effective May 10, 2025. The decision was shared with the healthcare system’s board on Wednesday night. DeCubellis has led the organization since 2020, taking on the role just two weeks before Minnesota confirmed its first COVID-19 case. Officials have stated that an interim CEO will be appointed on Thursday, as the organization begins a nationwide search for a permanent successor.

A Leadership Tenure Marked by Challenges

DeCubellis’ leadership spanned a critical period in Hennepin’s Healthcare’s history. She navigated the organization through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring patient care and hospital operations remained stable during unprecedented times. Additionally, she played a crucial role in managing the company during civil unrest following George Floyd’s death in 2020. One of her notable contributions was overseeing the rebuilding of the East Lake Clinic, which was damaged during the riots. In her statement to board members, DeCubellis reflected on her time as CEO, saying, “Every leader has a season. We are all destined for a specific purpose, and a strong leader passes the baton when the time is right. That time for me is now.”

Next Steps for Healthcare

The Hennepin Healthcare System (HHS) board is expected to announce an interim CEO on Thursday as they initiate the search for a new leader. This transition marks a significant shift for the healthcare organization, which serves as one of Minnesota’s largest medical systems. As the search for a permanent successor unfolds, HHS remains committed to ensuring continuity in leadership and patient care. The upcoming leadership change is expected to shape the future direction of Hennepin Healthcare as it continues its mission of providing quality medical services to the community.
